2006-2007 Season Comes to an End for Rage

The Rage raised their game somewhat for the playoff matchup against the Fusion. Their season average was 150.8 and for the series verses the Fusion it was 157.6 over the 5 possible games. The Rage had 10 games in which the starter scored 25 or less, with Marvin Willams doing that in all 5 games and Baron Davis doing it in 3. On the other hand, the Fusion only had 2 games with players scoring 25 or less. So inconsistency was a clear issue for the Rage. With a more consistent PF, the Rage could have easily stolen this series from the Fusion, but it just wasn't in the stars. The Rage lost the 1st game by 4 points with Marvin Williams only getting a BIG 5 pts. Rage lost the 2nd game by 8 pts with Williams again only providing 19 pts. The Rage would have won the 4th game had the series continued. So you can see how things could have been quite different. The Fusion was clearly hobbled with the absence of Ray Allen and Okafor.

If someone had to pick the MVP of the series, clearly Gilbert Areanas and Iggy would have to be the top 2 considered. But a closer look shows that Andre Iguodala was the main reason the the Fusion held off the Rage's upset attempt. in the 3 games that mattered, he raised his pt output by almost 13 pts per game over his season average. If he scores his season average in the first 3 games, the Rage win the series. So the MVP Award goes to AI2!

Okay, what does next year have for the Rage? Salary Cap looks great as the Rage can keep all of the key ingredients together next year and still be under the cap. But you never know with the always active Roseville Rage management. They have regularly done wholesale changes every year. After ignoring the anti-climactic FBF finals while vacationing in Tahiti, the management says their phones will be open for all trade considerations.

Early Lotto Predictions

The 2006-2007 FBF regular season is just 3 weeks away from being complete. The playoff race looks simple; Fusion faces either Spoilers or Conquest for championship.

This years lotto teams are still to be finalized, but a little look at the schedule, it is pretty easy to see who will be missing the playoffs this year. There are some tough calls like Wiz or Rush getting the final Chamberlain playoff birth. And Wildcats or Storm getting the final Russell playoff birth.

Here are my predictions for lotto finish and who owns the lotto slot:

Amazons -> Twolves
Singularity-> Singularity
Twolves -> Twolves
Bulls -> Twolves
Rebels-> Rebels
Legend -> Wildcats
Wildcats -> Wildcats
Rush -> Fusion

With one of the best draft years, the Russell Conference looks to improve the most. The Twolves did a great job in predicting the lotto picks to go after, missing with just the Falcons. Wildcats have the 2nd most picks with 2 later in the lotto. The Fusion, usually a great lotto pick predictor, missed on 3 of 4 picks he collected. The Lotto system may help the other teams but Twolves should get at least 2 of the top 3 players available this year. They need it after gutting their team of superstars KG and AI. Rebels and Singularity could both be helped enough to avoid the lotto next year. However, even 2 solid starters for Twolves may not be enough to get them back to contention immediately. Fusion will clearly be looking to package a bunch of middle range picks for cheap upcoming stars. They have too much young talent and picks to keep everything they have acquired... The question is have teams smartened up and will not keep stockpiling the league champ for years to come?

Trade Deadline January 29th - So What?

It seems activity in and around FBF has died down some. We are only days away from the trade deadline and I have heard of no rumors and have not received any offers myself.

I could really use a PF or a C...but it seems that the players most wanted are either owned by the top echelon of teams already or team are so afraid of being taken advantage of again, that their asking prices are extremely high.

My guess is that the deadline will come and go with not a single trade, or if there is one or two, they are not really critical to any teams immediate championship hopes. Maybe it's time to redraft the whole league rosters? at least then we'd have a more level playing field again.

06-07 Season Week 4 Observations

A few things that stand out so far in the FBF this year.:

1. Website is getting updated about a week late.
2. Wizapins are this years Conquest! Great Job Matt.
3. Big names dealt...KG and Carter after extended attempts to deal...
4. Injury is again having a huge impact on middle rung teams hopes...and new backups help top teams with their injuries.
5. Last years draft is looking better and better as the days go on...Deron, Bynum etc. But this years draft is currently looking very weak.
6. With 3 teams still undefeated...and so many teams "trying to lose", its looking more possible we could have an undefeated champion.

2006-07 Basketball Season Starts Tonight!!

The day has finally arrived. The summer filled with trades and rankings, and projections is over. Now the proof will be in the actual games played.

Are Tmac, Baron, JOneal, AI, Kirilenko, Boozer, Maggette, Brand, Amare, Wade, Webber going to avoid past injury problems and thus totally change the landscape of the FBF competition?

Who will be this years Chris Paul? Will the draft class of 06' breakout this year and pass the production of Paul? Will Milicic actually be an NBA center and even come close to the better that Melo, Wade and Bosh hype?

Will the Fusion actually go undefeated this year in FBF? Will a Commissioner (David or Dave) win the FBF title back? Or will we have a surprise Champ? Will Kurt complete his dismantle of the Twolves and finally deal KG? Will Pablo's risk work out or will it send him back to the cellar? Will Oden actually even come out of college this year?

Who will be the sleeper team in FBF this year?

All these and more questions will begin to be answered tonight!!! The ball is in the air.....

2006-07 FBF Projections

The following are 2006-07 projections; The past few years I have attempted to be objective in predicting players improvements or declines but clearly no one can be completely objective. So this year I used an outside source for my stat projections to limit bias. In the past I have attempted to predict fantasy points per game and total win lose records. While I again have done that, I am keeping those to myself and only presenting more broad predictions. Teams with an asterisk would be lotto teams. Actual lotto and playoff teams seemed easier to predict this year because so many teams are attempting to rebuild. However, the order of the lotto teams is much harder to predict. In my projections, only 6 games separate the bottom 4 teams. This year I have placed each teams projected division finish in parenthesis next to the team names. Just because a team ranks low doesn’t mean that that team isn’t on the right track. Some teams have harder schedules and may have holes in their lineup that can be filled with one player and thus make a huge difference in their results. Lower teams should take the challenge to prove my predictions wrong.

Dynasty-Meter

The goal of all teams in a keeper league is to develop a dynasty. A dynasty is a team that has mastered the system of balancing salary cap with the need for certain types of players as well as developing players for the future. I took 6 categories and weighted 2 of the most important (Studs and Role Players) and totaled the scores. The Stockpile category considers future draft picks. This system rates how well teams are doing in the dynasty building process.

FBF POOL - When Will FBF Site Be Updated?

Join the pool today. The last update was September 24th. David has been hard at work in moving the site to a new server. Man of the owners have nothing better to do than to check each and every day what transactions have been made by their fellow Managers. Some of us freaks, even have FBF as our home page and some refresh page multiple times per day (shh it wasn't really Antione doing this!).

So the pool begins today. Put in your vote. Pick a date between now and the begining of the NBA schedule which is Oct. 31st. So basically, 24 days. We have 24 teams and 24 days...Get your pick in first!

CBS Cash League!

Any FBFers want to spice it up and play for some cash? I am thinking about getting a CBS league – the league will only cost me $100 if I get it by Oct. 4th. $150 after that date.

If each team pays $50 to play, we can have cash prizes (after covering the $100 league cost). I was thinking something like the 3 division winners get $50. The two finalists get $100 each on top of $50 if they won their division, the league champ gets another $150 on top of that. So win the divison and the league and you walk away with $300! So basically, 3-4 managers will win their money back at least– 25% -33% odds.

If you are interested in something like this, let me know ASAP. If I can get 10-12 teams we can make something like this work!

UPDATE: We have about 6 guys interested so far...I need a minimum of 4 more guys. Let me Know ASAP!

I am a Christian man so I will hopefully hold my tongue from foul language as I comment on this crap! :) I have gotten my share of bad offers...and probably have made some too. I am in football leagues with Jeff also and have gotten wild trade offers there too. BUT I AM LITERALLY FLABERGASTED by this guys junk.

So basically Jeff thinks that his trash is worth two top 5 #1 picks and a star starter. Just becasue jeff found a really gullible manager to give a player picked high this year (sheldon Willaims) and a #1 the in 08 (oh yeah he does know that that could not happen until after the season starts... but screw the rules and other teams) for his lame 15 million dollar injury prone crybaby named Vonce Carter. Vince wants a raise in his new contract next year. Anyone who takes Carter for anything more than a 2nd rounder is bluntly a poor fantasy mgr.

This league has its share of jerky managers who prey on the weaker teams, but jeff takes the cake, thinking these deals are even considerable shows his arrogance and should be a warning to all future potential traders to stay away from Jeff AT ALL COST!

Trade Winds

Well the FA draft is almost completed. Team rosters are getting more firm...but a closer look shows that there will still be some trade winds blowing in the FBF.

Exclusive Rumors:

Dust Devils are working on a deal to get a starting SG, so they can move Wade over to fulltime PG with Devin Harris getting more time to develop behind Wade. Inside sources gave no clues to the parties involved or the players who might be involved.

Could Shaq be on the move? A monumentus deal may be in the works which could alter the landscape of the FBF. Shaq changing addresses is a possibility. But where? More info coming.

Likely Moves:

LA Jam have traditionally put forth solid teams with a bent towards youth. Right now his starting PF is "horrific" as quoted by a fellow FBF Manager. It seems likely that GM Jeff will make some kind of move...but Jeff traditionally doesn't deal youth for salary...and the same seems liklely now. It depends if he will find a sucker...errrr trade partner to take Vince Carter for an established PF.

The Twolves have been looking desperately for a buyer for KG. While KG is a stud, his 21 million dollar price tage and trade cost of youth, make it almost impossible to deal.

The Rebels have been looking for a buyer for newly acquired Shane Battier, ut as of yet, no buyers.

The Singularitywould love to deal Wally Szczerbiak but will probably have to wait until the season is underway to even have a chance to deal his huge salary and inconsistent stats.

The Rage are over the cap and have clearly been working the phones looking for the best deals. Teams have apparently thought that the Rage would have trouble dealing with his cap issues, but are wrong. Teams looking for solid starters by offering 3rd string low potential guys have gotten cold responses from the Rage Mgmt. Look for Rage to make a move or two soon.

The Value of a FA pick

Year after year the fa draft comes around and I wonder why even bother. Its just another tool for the top teams to decieve the weaker teams into trading valuable stuff for worthess things. Is this being too harsh? Lets look at the realities.

Last year there were 8 FA picks that were passed on. So team didn't even see value in using a FA pick. Last year desomnd Mason and Kendrick perkins were okay pick-ups but nothing to write home to mom about. The year before 3 people passed and Nocioni and Mo Williams were the hits. Remember however that the regular draft couldnt include a playere like Nocioni like it does now. A Player like nocioni would not be available today. The evidence shows very low likleyhood of getting a serviceable player through the FA draft.

But every year, teams tout ...look what player MIGHT be dropped this year...blah blah blah. The truth is the FA pick is just a simple protection from the top guys getting all the good FA waiver pickups...but is it really accomlishing that??? The inverse could be proposed. It is only heling the strong teams.

Saying all that...I have 2 great FA picks available to trade...they are super hot! Just imagine if Howard drops Lebron...you could get him with one of my FA picks. Thats at least worth a 1st round pick don't you think? :)

The Yearly Big Questions

This time of year in FBF, when a team sees what their team will actually be like for the coming year, they might ask a few tough questions. Like...

Am I ever going to be able to beat the top teams? It seems year after year the top teams end up besting the other teams and getting their star breakout players or their draft picks or young upcoming stars. You might have said,I will never let that team exploit me again in a deal... only to do it again.

Who do I drop? Many teams are way over the roster limit and they have players that they mostly like...but when push comes to shove...who do you let go for free?

Is it all worth it? I know for some guys, we spend alot of time thinking and chatting about FBF. Sometimes we honestly have to remind ourselves its a game and weigh how much time we will give to this game.

And for a few teams...Did i trade for the right #1 picks for next year, so I can have a shot at the draft lottery? This year only 14 teams still own thier own #1 pick next year. That means 10 teams traded thiers. Eight teams do not have a #1 next year. And their are five teams that combined own 13 of the #1 picks for next year.

You may be asking these and other questions... Bottom line... It is a game, let's have fun...don't take yourself too seriously...lets be honest, luck plays a big part in fantasy sports when all is said and done.

AND MAYBE THE MOST PRESSING QUESTION...WHY DOES HOWARD HAVE SO MUCH HAIR?

Who would be the first team to get J. R. Reddick from Wall Street. I honestly don't even remember who posed the question...but at first glance at that comment I was like, that won't happen. I was kind of offended by the thought that a team would even try to take WS's only 1st round pick in years away from him. But a way was found to bypass the "must have a 1st round pick" rule impletmented a couple years ago. I know each team values players in their own way. But we have got to have a rule that teams cannot make moves that actually hurt their team....wow that sounds like such a liberal idea coming from such a political conservative....

This year in the top 5 picks, we have had 2 major difficulties that warranted a commish intervention. Why? I think because there is a fundimental thing guys are missing.

We don't have 6 hours to pick...we have 6 hours not to get skipped!

If we view the time like that we will all get along much better and have less confusion. If you are online and don't pick, you are taking a risk of getting skipped if things happen.

Speculation! KG on the Move?

A recent deal fuels speculation that KG might be headed to a different address. You heard it here first! A move like this would really make the the Russell Conference championship only a 2 team battle. (It's that pretty much anyway)

But what is the real price for KG? Only Kurt knows.

In Other News:

Oregon Ducks made a neccessary move for Cap reasons and propelled their team forward by getting younger and deeper. However, more move seem highly likely based on position needs.

Fantasy Basketball Federation 2006-2007

The FBF season is nearing! Teams are watching rookies to see which ones they like. Teams are making trades to postion themselves for a run at the title. There are all kinds of strategies. But in the end there is only one champion each year. Last year the Fusion finally took home the trophy. The Tweed report had predicted this victory before the season had even started. However, that same prediction is rumored to have made in prior years also. The 2006-07 Tweed Report will hit the shelves soon after the NBA draft. We will see some new teams in the Dynasty Meter! The Conquest was added to the Dynasty Meter last year and look how they performed.
